Getty Images’ photograhers win at Picture Editors’ Guild awards

Getty Images has announce that a number of its’ photographers have won prizes at the UK picture editors guild awards that were held last week.

Getty Images photographers snap up News Photographer of the Year, Business Photographer of the Year and Royal Photographer of the Year awards at this year’s Picture Editors’ Guild Awards.

London, 22 September 2010: Three Getty Images photographers walked away with prestigious awards at the 2010 Picture Editors’ Guild Awards, held last night in London, with two Getty Images photographers also receiving significant commendations.

  • News Photographer of the Year: Nominated in two categories, Chris Furlong was recognised for his high-impact and diverse representation of work, which included stunning imagery from the funeral of Britain’s last surviving WWI veteran Harry Patch, as well as Prime Minister David Cameron and Nick Clegg after their first press conference in the gardens of Downing Street. The talented photojournalist, who was chosen to officially photograph the Vancouver Olympics by the International Olympic Committee, also received a highly commended award in the Business Photographer of the Year category.
  • Royal Photographer of the Year: Christopher Jackson swept up the Royal Photographer of the Year category, as well as receiving a highly commended award in the Celebrity Photographer of the Year category. Christopher Jackson was recognised for his stunning portfolio of images showcasing different aspects of royal life, including an image of Prince William on a royal visit to New Zealand, and Prince Harry falling off his horse during a polo match.
  • Business Photographer of the Year: Getty Images photographer, Oliver Scarff was awarded the prestigious Business Photographer of the Year title for his engaging portfolio of images, which included a powerful image of the British Airways strikes, as well as an image of the Rt Hon Alistair Darling and his wife on the day of the budget announcement.
  • Highly commended awards also acknowledged thought-provoking and outstanding work from Getty Images photographers Dan Kitwood and Mike Hewitt, who received commendations for the News Photographer of the Year and Sports Photographer of the Year awards respectively.
