Getty Grants 2011 Call For Entries Open
Getty Images has opened entries for the 2011 grants for editorial photography
PRESS RELEASE
Getty Images today announced that entries are now open for the 2011 Grants for Editorial Photography program. Empowering professional photographers to create compelling social, political, and cultural stories, the Grants for Editorial Photography provides five grants of 20,000 USD each to provide photojournalists with the funding and freedom to pursue projects of personal and journalistic significance. In addition, the student grant program provides the opportunity for student winners’ work to be showcased on Reportage by Getty Images. For 2011, both individual photographers and those who work within teams may apply for a grant.
First established in 2004, the Grants for Editorial Photography underscore Getty Images’ belief in the power of photojournalism to generate greater awareness of significant social and cultural issues, and its dedication to supporting content creators. The grants program was created to promote excellence in photojournalism by providing both emerging and established photographers with the means, creative freedom and collaborative editorial guidance to pursue projects of personal and journalistic significance. In addition to grants, Getty Images awards winners with resources such as project execution guidance from Getty Images photo editors.
Grants will be awarded by independent judges, each selected by Getty Images for his or her talent and industry experience. Selection will be based on the judges’ determination of an applicant’s ability to execute their proposed project with compelling visual narrative in documentary feature format, taking into account the caliber of portfolio, project merit and professional ability. The 2011 Grants for Editorial Photography judging panel will consist of:
- Jon Jones, Director of Photography, The Sunday Times Magazine
- Emanuela Mirabelli, Photo Editor, Marie Claire Italy
- Cyril Drouhet, Le Figaro Magazine
- Tom Stoddart, Award-winning Photojournalist
- Jean-Francois Leroy, Director General, Visa pour l’Image
Winners will be announced in September 2011 at the Visa Pour l’Image photojournalism festival in Perpignan, France. For further information on Getty Images’ Grants program, including previous recipients visit, www.gettyimages.com/grants.
