All media integrated in one digital magazine demo
We’ve seen the demo’s of Sports Illustrated, Bonnier, Interview and Wired Magazine for tablet readers. Now here’s a new one with a different vision. Check out these 3 video’s of Viv Magazine and in particular the making of. It shows how stills, video, sketching, illustration, 3d and music all work together to create a single feature. Daunting? Definitely. Full of promise and potential? Absolutely.
Viv Magazine demo’s their integrated media cover and feature and shares all the steps in the creation of their latest issue. It truly shows the potential of using all media available to create stories. Targeted at a more creative and visually oriented audience this experience may not be for everyone. The Wired demo, for example, stays closer to the original magazine concept and the Bonnier version doesn’t go much beyond page flipping. This one focusses less on text an more on the overall ‘immersive’ experience.
What these demo’s show is the various approaches these companies are taking and how they are already pushing the boundaries, before a single iPad or similar device has been launched. For those creating content using this wide variety of digital media and those creating and selling it, it is time to move the debate on and start taking first steps to facilitate these various innovative ways of publishing.
To quote the guy 4 mins in the demo ‘It was supposed to be a stills shoot and now we’ve got this f…ing motion camera’; while this is a joke it is not unlikely many will find themselves in exactly that situation over the coming months and years.
