Cannes Avertising Festival Opens Registration

It’s not just Cepic that has opened for registration for their annual congress. The Cannes advertising festival is now also taking registrations for its’ 2011 edition of the Cannes Lions. The last two years have been a bit modest with many companies cutting back on events, perhaps this year the tide is turning and the festival will be back to strength. Having been part of both the Getty Images, and later, the Corbis presence at the festival there are a number of benefits about staying informed. The event does bring together a huge amount of speakers and panels and they are of the highest caliber. These speakers give useful insights not in just what picture buying businesses go through but also share trends that apply to all business.

The downside? It’s not cheap. While flights are very affordable and hotels reasonable the festival access is expensive and that’s before you get the bill for a round of beer at the waterfront hotels (which is incidentally where all the networking takes place). For those used to Picture Business events it will be a bit of a shock. The alternative is to ease into and enjoy the off-festival activities or keep an eye on the website and posted video’s on Vimeo and YouTube. And there may be a possibility that Fast Media Magazine will report from the festival too.

The festival takes place from 19-25 June. More details below. If you do decide to go why not connect here with other visitors from the Picture Business on Fast Media Magazine by leaving a comment or sending an email.

After the successful launch last year, both The Cannes Creative Leaders Programme, a two-week training initiative in conjunction with the Berlin School of Creative Leadership that takes place in Berlin and Cannes in June for industry executives, and “How to Cannes”, where newcomers to Cannes Lions can maximise their experience by attending one of the daily morning talks by a Cannes Lions veteran and Festival official, will continue to operate in 2011.

“Cannes Lions has become a unique event, offering learning, inspiration and networking as well as a celebration of the best in global creativity,” comments Philip Thomas, Festival CEO. “It reflects the changes in the communications industry and I have no doubt that the 2011 Festival will once again be full of exciting new work, new technologies and new types of people, all contributing to what Cannes Lions is: the opportunity to frame the shape of the industry in the coming 12 months.”
