Corbis celebrates 20th birthday with exhibition
Corbis celebrated its 20th anniversary with a one night only exhibition at the National Theatre in London on the 3rd of September 2009.
The exhibition featured a selection of iconic photos and commentaries from Corbis’ Storied (www.corbis.com/storied), an online experience that sheds new light on culturally and historically important photographs from the Corbis collection. In Storied, influential thinkers, writers, heroes, artists, and photographers uncover hidden truths in iconic images and reframe the historic moments. Their personal insights, expressed through text, audio, and video elements, reveal hidden truths about the images and illuminate the events, places and personalities they capture.
“We’ve been honoured to collaborate with such a dynamic group of people and hear them share some of their treasured stories with us,” said Matt Burgess, VP, EMEA Marketing, Corbis. “A glance at a photo can instantly take you back to a moment in time, and it’s been fascinating to have photos from the Corbis archive revive distant and unexpected memories from our commentators.”
Amongst others, the London exhibition featured the following photos and contributors:
- Coco Chanel by Douglas Kirkland
- Jack Nicholson by Douglas Kirkland
- Michael Jackson by Henry Diltz
- Keith Richards by Henry Diltz
- Moon landing by Buzz Aldrin
