Getty Images launches the Archive Photos collection

Getty Images has launched a new collection made up of images from the Hulton Archive. The Archive Photos collection will feature ‘Iconic images of the American experience’.

 Getty Images Inc. today announced the launch of the new Archive Photos collection featuring historic and contemporary images of the American experience from the Hulton Archive.  Originating from the Hulton’s unrivalled archive of photojournalism, Archive Photos covers America from its birth to present day from the signing of the Declaration of Independence to iconic scenes from the 20th century.  Archive Photos is now available online at http://www.gettyimages.com/archive.

The new Archive Photos collection has been carefully crafted by the Hulton Archive’s editors to reflect historically and socially significant American themes.  It boasts 80,000 digitized archival editorial and creative images including vintage model-released stock, news photos of every description from around the world, extensive coverage of Hollywood from the early days to present and a large collection of engravings and drawings of events and people from before the introduction of photography.  The collection includes content by many of the most influential photographers in history, such as Julia Margaret-Cameron, Lewis Hine and Jacob Riis, as well as celebrated sources including Pictorial Parade, FPG and George Eastman House.

Getty Images spent several months selecting the most historically significant and marketable images that would resonate with American themes for this unique collection.  More than 80,000 images have been digitized to create the new Archive Photos collection, and will continue to evolve as more visual gems are discovered from within the Hulton Archive. From the launch of Apollo 11 to Babe Ruth’s last game and from the strength of Theodore Roosevelt to the charisma of Elizabeth Taylor, many of the most famous editorial shots in history are part of Getty Images’ new offering including Pulitzer-Prize-winning photography.
