Getty Images Photographers Are Awarded Sport Journalism Prices

Getty Images is announcing its photographers have received eight prices at the Sports journalism association awards.

Getty Images was a significant winner at the 2010 Sports Journalism Association Awards held last night in London, scooping an unprecedented eight awards, including the prestigious Sports Photographer of the Year prize.

The Sports Photographer of the Year award is chosen from the Sport Portfolio and the Specialist Sports Portfolio winners. Laurence Griffiths won the Sports Portfolio category for a ten picture portfolio of best sporting images including an image that captured the trophy celebrations at the UEFA Europa League Final match between Atletico Madrid and Fulham at HSH Nordbank Arena on May 12, 2010 in Hamburg, Germany. He then went onto to win the overall coveted Sports Photographer of the year prize.

In the Sports Picture Category, Getty Images had a clean-sweep with Paul Gilham taking the top award with Julian Finney and Mike Hewitt receiving highly commended awards. Hewitt also was awarded with the highly commended prizes in the Sports News Picture and Specialist Portfolio categories.  One of Hewitt’s winning images was of Cesc Fabregas being upended by Michael Turner during the Barclays Premiere League match between Arsenal and Sunderland at Emirates Stadium on February 20, 2010 in London, England.
