PRESS RELEASE
TRUNK ARCHIVE is pleased to announce that we now represent the extensive works of HERB RITTS for exclusive worldwide image licensing.
Herb Ritts began his photographic career in the late 1970’s and quickly gained a reputation as a master of photography. He was drawn to clean lines and strong forms. Through this graphic simplicity he challenged the conventional notions of photography.
Ritts created timeless portraits of a long list of notable persons from the worlds of fashion, film, music, politics and society. His subjects included Dame Elizabeth Taylor, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Jack Nicholson, Julia Roberts, Michael Jackson and Nelson Mandela, among many others.
In addition to producing memorable portraits and fashion imagery for Vogue, Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone andInterview, he also created unforgettable advertising campaigns for Calvin Klein, Chanel, Donna Karan, Giorgio Armani, Pirelli, The Gap and Versace among others. These iconic images, as well as many others previously unseen, are now available through Trunk Archive.
Herb Ritts’ fine art photography has been the subject of numerous acclaimed museum and gallery exhibitions worldwide. His solo exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston in 1996 attracted more than 250,000 visitors. Another exhibition of note followed in 1999 at the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain in Paris.
In April of 2012 the Getty Museum in Los Angeles will feature an extensive exhibition of his photographs and highlights from his video and commercial directing work including the award-winning Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game” and Janet Jackson’s “Love Will Never Do (Without You).”
Herb Ritts’ publications include Pictures (1988), Men/Women (1989), DUO (1991), Notorious (1992), Africa(1994), WORK (1996) and Herb Ritts (1999).
