Mash-Up Mario
It’s an anniversary that will, unless you don’t remember the 90’s, make you suddenly feel rather old. Super Mario the Nintendo megastar this year marks his 30th Birthday. Brazilian artist and photographer Butcher Billy pays tribute to one of, if not the, most popular video game personalities, taking iconic images from 1985 onwards and mixing in Mario related icons.
Michael Jackson, the fall of the Berlin Wall, Freddie Mercury’s crushingly early death, the freeing of Nelson Mandela and the Simpsons all summarise the cultural and historical change that has occurred since Mario’s birth.
