Stages of grief: Poll results
When I published our stages of grief post I said I believed the stock photography industry was in between denial and anger in dealing with the significant changes in technology, media and buyers behaviour.
Our poll shows that some of you agree but most of the respondents think we’re in the bargaining stage. 32% Of respondents believe the industry is at this third stage of grief. This stage is defined as:
‘The hope that the individual can somehow postpone or delay death. Usually, the negotiation for an extended life is made with a higher power in exchange for a reformed lifestyle. Psychologically, the individual is saying, “I understand I will die, but if I could just have more time’
If an industry is at this third stage there are two more to go: Depression and Acceptance. The sooner creators and sellers of photography can accept the changes the earlier it can engage with buyers to come up with truly workable solutions that enable easier and faster licensing for a fast growing need for large quantities of imagery.
