LONDON:, Historic images capturing the lives and times of people and events from across the world will be displayed in a new exhibition at the Getty Images Gallery to celebrate the long career of one of Britain’s most renowned photojournalists, Thurston Hopkins.
The images featured in the exhibition have been selected by Thurston Hopkins and Getty Images Gallery to represent and showcase the breadth of subject matter required of photographers at the time. The exhibition also features some of Thurston’s personal negatives, alongside iconic images of Joan Crawford, Alfred Hitchcock and Ingrid Bergman.
“We are absolutely delighted to present a major exhibition of one of Britain’s most iconic and renowned photographers, Thurston Hopkins. As a staff photographer at the legendary Picture Post magazine, Hopkins had the rare opportunity to witness first hand, different countries and communities, allowing him to capture daily life with his characteristic sensitivity,” commented Getty Images Gallery Director, Louise Garczewska. “Every image featured in the exhibit allows us to appreciate the skills and vision that has made him one of the country’s most celebrated photojournalists.”
The exhibition runs from 15 April to 4 June and admission is free. The Getty Images Gallery is situated in central London, just a stone’s throw away from Oxford Circus. Opening hours are from 9am to 5.30pm, Monday to Saturday.
