Twitter finally introduces advertising
After a long wait and much anticipation Twitter has introduced its first revenue-generating feature. It is called promoted tweets. Promoted tweets are regular tweets that businesses can pay for to go out to a wider audience. The service starts with a number of companies on board, some of those early adopters are: Best Buy, Bravo ,Red Bull , Sony Pictures , Starbucks , and Virgin America .
The tweets will show up at the top of some twitter search results and will be clearly labelled as ‘promoted’. Twitter is introducing a complicated algorithm that measures the relevance of the promoted messages through retweets, readership and a number of other factors. Over time the promoted tweets will also be available for Twitter clients. For now it’s only available on Twitter.com
