Will Facebook take over the photo-sharing market?
This week Facebook announced three major improvements to photos. Changes that led Mashable to comment: ‘these changes allow a whole new class of image-sharing, up to and including photography, modeling and graphic design portfolios. With its 500 million users around the world, Facebook is now poised to take over the photo-sharing market’.
The changes allow for higher resolution images, a new and improved way to browse pictures and a new uploader allowing users to bulk-upload images. The high-res, print quality images are 8 times bigger than before and the functionality comes free of charge. The viewing functionality is faster and comes with a dark frame to give more prominence to the image. Google and now Facebook are continuing their investment in how they present imagery to their users. With a huge base of followers there may even be opportunities to monetize photo sharing in the mid-term.

Sharing Your Content and Information
You own all of the content and information you post on Facebook, and you can control how it is shared through your privacy and application settings. In addition:
For content that is covered by intellectual property rights, like photos and videos (“IP content”), you specifically give us the following permission, subject to your privacy and application settings: you grant us a non-exclusive, transferable, sub-licensable, royalty-free, worldwide license to use any IP content that you post on or in connection with Facebook (“IP License”). This IP License ends when you delete your IP content or your account unless your content has been shared with others, and they have not deleted it.
I’m also concerned about their usage policies. When you post on Facebook they effectively co-own your images! I removed all of my images and will wait to see if their will be any change to their policies!!
