YouTube launches major frontend redesign

Over the past few days YouTube has completed one of the largest redesigns in its history. The intention of the changes is to go back and refocus on the video and take out or change any items that would take that focus away. This has led to a simplification of the video viewing page. The changes have been tested over the past two months and have now been rolled out Globally.

It’s probably best to visit YouTube and play around with the new look and feel. Here are some of the changes: Information about a video is now grouped together and getting to the detail is more consistent. The sharing, flagging and embedding menu has also changed. The five star rating system has been replaced with a ‘thumbs up, thumbs down’ approach. Going through comments now has more opions and other suggested video’s now use different information to select video’s for you to watch in an effort to be more accurate.

There are a number of other changes, in fact, it took us some time to find things so best to take a few minutes to look at this major redesign. You can also find the full list of changes in the YouTube blog (New video page launches for all users)
