Getty Images has announced a partnership with the Imperial War Museums

Getty Images today announces a collaboration with IWM (Imperial War Museums) which will see Getty Images representing over 2,000 images from the museums’ prestigious imagery collections.

IWM’s collections, made up of over 11 million images, cover all aspects of war and conflict from the First World War through to the present day, with a particular emphasis on the United Kingdom and Commonwealth experience. In addition to its photo archives, IWM also holds an exceptional collection of 20th and 21st century British art, posters and graphic design, and includes many great works of art from the Government War Art schemes of the First and Second World War. In the lead up the centenary of the First World War in 2014, IWM has also embarked on an extensive digitisation project of its WWI holdings, which will also be available for licensing through Getty images in future months.

The archives of the IWM represent a significant addition to our own files and it is particularly exciting that they are currently digitising more of their archives, in order to bring new historical material to light.  In the run up to both WWI and WWII anniversaries Getty Images will be able to offer customers’ one of the richest seams of historical war and conflict material available anywhere.”

Getty Images has one of the most extensive image licensing networks in the world and we hope that making these 2,000 images available is the first step to a more extensive collaboration in the future.”
