Corbis signs on new photojournalists
Corbis announced that it has signed several acclaimed photojournalists as new contributors as the company continues to expand its current events and contemporary archival photo coverage in news, sports and entertainment. The announcement was made at Visa pour l’Image, the premier International Festival of Photojournalism being held in Perpignan, France from August 29 to September 13.
“Corbis is pleased to welcome some of the most prestigious names in photojournalism to our roster,” said Anil Ramchand, Director of News, Sports and Entertainment at Corbis. “World-class editorial photography is part of our heritage, and these talented photographers help strengthen our current events offering for media customers.”
Many of the newly signed photographers will be contributing the latest in news and sports imagery on an ongoing basis, and several are also contributing previous work from their personal photojournalism archives. Photographers that have recently signed as contributors to Corbis include:
• Tim Clayton – Tim is an eight-time World Press Awards winner and won first place an amazing three times, in 1994, 2003 and 2008. His countless sports assignments have included six Olympic Games, four Rugby World Cups as well as following the Socceroos – rabid Australian soccer fans – to Iran, Uruguay, South Korea and the Solomon Islands. Born in Leeds, England, he currently lives in Australia.
• Elizabeth Kreutz – Elizabeth has covered five Tours de France, two Olympic Games, and more than 15 Ironman Triathlons. Kreutz is also Lance Armstrong’s personal photographer. This year Elizabeth documented Armstrong’s return to competitive cycling with exclusive behind-the-scenes access. She began at the Astana Team Training Camp in Tenerife Spain and then joined Armstrong at the Tour Down Under and the Tour of California, and finally at the 2009 Tour de France.
• David Turnley – David was the winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1990 and runner-up four times, as well as two-time winner of the World Press Photo of the Year award. David has produced eight books and, in recent years, has branched into film direction with films including “The Dalai Lama: At Home in Exile,” and “La Tropical.”
• Steve Lipofsky – Steve has two Sports Illustrated covers to his credit and his work appears in many publications throughout the world. Steve has photographed almost every living NBA legend from Bill Russell to Michael Jordan. His shots of all NBA players and teams from 1981 to 2003 are now available through Corbis. Steve has also photographed newsmakers such as Lee Iacocca, Presidents Clinton and Obama, Bill Russell, Johnny Carson and OJ Simpson.
• Sandy Huffaker – Sandy works regularly for The New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal and The London Sunday Times as well as corporate clients including Disney, AFLAC, Novartis and Qualcomm. He has covered hundreds of breaking news events from wildfires and hurricanes to aviation disasters. He has had deep interest in U.S./Mexico border issues and immigration for over 10 years, traveling to Mexico frequently.
• Brendan Hoffman – Brendan has years of experience shooting political news in Washington, DC, with recent work featured on the cover of Time magazine. He is contributing feature work from the U.S. and around the world to Corbis. Brendan is an avid traveller and works regularly with Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs).
• Noah Addis – Noah is a former staff member of The Newark Star Ledger. He has won numerous regional and national awards including the New Jersey Photographer of the Year award three times. He is known for his critically acclaimed work on poverty, housing, cityscapes and modern culture.
• Ricardo Ceppi – Ricardo, who was born in Argentina, has years of experience producing groundbreaking photography for South American media including Rosario, Clarín, Noticias, Gente and Viva as well as newswires AFP, Reuters and DPA. He covers hard news as well as features within and around Argentina.
• Les Stone – Les’s visually arresting work has been recognised by several World Press Photo Awards and Picture of the Year Awards. He is a former photographer for the famed Sygma photo agency. He is a diverse shooter and his subjects range from energy, oil and industry to Haiti and healthcare in Appalachia.
• Amy Sussman – Amy works on large photo feature stories focusing on social issues, culture and environment. Amy has recently covered events such as the Tent City in Sacramento, the urban farming trend sweeping the U.S. during the recession.
• Trevor Snapp – Trevor’s work explores the important social issues of our time, from urban gangs in El Salvador to AIDS outreach in Sudan. He works for a variety of international media including Stern, National Geographic Traveler, Marie Claire and the Chicago Tribune. An experienced radio and multimedia producer, he has years of experience documenting the work of NGOs around the world.
