How to commit Social Media suicide in 2010

People are spending ever more time on Social Media netwoks and the amount of options increases all the time. Some people have turned their back on networks or are simply inactive after registering.  Suididemachine goes one step further and helps you to remove all your data from some of the biggest Social Media networks out there.Rather than deleting your account (which leaves traces of your data on the internet) the site automatically erases all your friends, tweets and comments, one by one (Don’t try this if you are not sure, the process is irreversible). It also changes your password so you can never login again. So far close to 900 people have used the service unfriending over 50.000 people in the proces. This is how they describe it:

Liberate your newbie friends with a Web2.0 suicide! This machine lets you delete all your energy sucking social-networking profiles, kill your fake virtual friends, and completely do away with your Web2.0 alterego. The machine is just a metaphor for the website which moddr_ is hosting; the belly of the beast where the web2.0 suicide scripts are maintained. Our service currently runs with Facebook, Myspace, Twitter and LinkedIn! Commit NOW!

So if you have a New Years resolution to spend more face to face time with friends and family instead of glued to your screen checking out your social networks this may be something for you.

Facebook has since blocked the IP adress of Suicidemachine so it can’t be used there for now. Suicicemachine say they are looking into the situation.
