IREX launching new digital bookreader

A new book, magazine and newspaper reader was unveiled today. This will further drive he adoption of new ways to consume media and the need to find apropriare licensing models.

The IREX Digital Reader will compete with Amazon’s Kindle in the market for wireless digital reading devices. The price in the US will be $399,-. The company will make a statement about its European plans at the Frankfurt Bookfair that starts on the 14th of October.

Just like with the Kindle the device allows users to purchase books, newspapers or magazines from a wide variety of sources, in addition it supports multiple formats including industry standard ePub format and multiple DRM solutions, rather than a single, “closed” proprietary format that locks content to a specific device.

The IREX device is supported by key partner Barnes & Noble, Inc, Best Buy, Qualcomm and Verizon Wireless, which together provide access to the content, retail presence and the most reliable wireless network in the US, setting the IREX DR800SG apart in an increasingly competitive market.
