“I’ve been photographing in Afghanistan for more than a dozen years, I first went there in November 2001 when the war really hadn’t started. I’ve been going back for 14 years so I photographed the entire arc of the war.

“When I heard the war was going to come to an end, I thought it was a time for reflection. We know the war as this high-energy, high intensity. That was what got on the telly in the West.
