Erika Glover Of The Granger Collection Dies At 79

RELEASE

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Erika Glover, Director of The Granger Collection, on Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at the age of 79 at her home in Nevis, West Indies. The cause of death was heart failure and kidney failure.

Erika Glover and her husband William, who died in January 2010 at the age of 76, established The Granger Collection, an historical picture library in Manhattan, 46 years ago. From a half-dozen empty file cabinets in 1964, the holdings of The Granger Collection have grown to encompass more than six million black-and-white prints, photographs, and color transparencies illustrating the history of mankind, from prehistoric times to the recent past.

As many picture editors and researchers know well, Mrs. Glover’s dedication to the collection was unparalleled. In addition to her no-nonsense flair and shrewd business insight, Mrs. Glover possessed a joie de vivre that we all will miss greatly.

Mrs. Glover is survived by her daughters Johanna Wasylik of Alberta, Canada; and Lorna Abungu of Nairobi, Kenya; sons-in-law Rick Wasylik and George Abungu; and four grandchildren, Charlotte, Nicholas, and Alexander Wasylik, and Ajuma Abungu. She is also survived by a brother Luka, his wife Vera and son Boris, in Croatia.

Lila Dlaboha, Deputy Director of The Granger Collection since September 2000, has been named Managing Director. Johanna Wasylik, who was Managing Director from 1990 to 1994, assumes the position of President and Lorna Abungu becomes Treasurer.
