Newspapers collaborating to charge for online content

Journalism online to launch online payment for over 500 newspapers

Brand republic reports that more than 500 newspapers have signed up with a company called journalism online and will start charging for online use of content.

A quote from the mission statement of journalism online says:” Grounded by the common-sense principle that those who invest in and create content should not be bystanders while others make a profit from it, they seek to enable news publishers to generate new revenues from readers and distributors for their digital content.”

Through the system readers can access all publications with one password and pay for subscriptions, daypasses and individual articles or license content for other uses.

You can find a full interview with Steve Brill, founder of Journalism online here.
